With sold-out tours and chart-topping albums, Demi Lovato is one of the biggest names in the music industry, so fans were understandably confused when they saw her—or a woman who looked like her—compete for a record deal on the current season of “American Idol.” Turns out, the woman wasn’t the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer but Michelle Sussett, a 22-year-old aspiring singer, who fans are calling a dead ringer for a circa-2008 Lovato.

For most of the competition, Sussett, a Miami, Florida resident who was raised in Venezuela, rocked long, dark-brown locks that parted naturally on her side. It wasn’t until the live shows when Sussett got a makeover giving her choppy, punk-rocker-like fringe that fans made the Lovato comparisons.

The comparisons reached an all-time high recently when Sussett sang an original song with her hair and bangs styled stick-straight. Immediately, fans began comparing Sussett to Lovato’s 2008 “Camp Rock” character, Mitchie, who sported a near-identical hairstyle. Given that both Sussett and Lovato have a Latina background, fans were even more convinced that the two looked like twins.

Sussett’s resemblance even fooled actress Sarah Hyland, who took to her Instagram stories to express her shock over the “American Idol” contestant’s uncanny appearance. “Omg I love Camp rock! Demi Lovato circa 2007?” Hyland captioned her Instagram story. She later retweeted a fan who agreed that Sussett looked like Demi 2.0.

Aside from their looks, both Sussett and Lovato’s “Camp Rock” character (as well as Lovato around that time) are aspiring singers, so the resemblance is more than skin-deep. Perhaps Lovato’s fans are onto something. See Sussett’s performance and more of her Lovato-like selfies to determine her doppelgänger potential for yourself.
